Best LCD Gaming Monitors 2011-2012

While it’s true that most new release monitors are LED backlit liquid crystal displays (LCD) there are still many great fluorescent – lit LCD monitors available which have the specifications that gamers are looking for. While LED backlit monitors have certainly come down in price, the main advantage to buying an LCD monitor online is still to get the same specifications as a more expensive LED monitor for a cheaper price. In this post we’ll list and review the top ten best rated LCD gaming monitors and give you a comparison chart so you can easily compare prices for these monitors with LED monitors of similar specifications which we’ve listed in our LED Gaming Monitors tab above. If you simply want to see a specification and price comparison chart for our LCD monitors picks, then see the LCD gaming Monitors tab.

ASUS VW246H 24-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor – Customer Choice Winner

Asus has a few really great monitors in this price range with gaming grade specifications. The VW246H is one to look at as well as the VH236H if you can find it readily available. The VW246H is a large full high definition 1920 x 1080 resolution 24 inch monitor. It was built with gamers and movie enthusasts in mind with a fast 2ms response time and Asus Smart Contrast Ratio of 20,000:1. The design is sleek looking and it’s glossy, a pro for some and con for others, and it comes with integrated 2-watt stereo speakers which is convenient for when you’re browsing the web and don’t want to use your gaming headset.

What one verified owner had to say: “Absolutely fantastic display! What else do you need in a monitor. I have owned this for more than 1 year, and it works as solid as new and the display is as crisp as it was when I got it. I highly recommend it.”

Overall: We recommend the Asus VW246H because of it’s great specifications and incredibly low price (under $200). If you can still find one, then definitely take it into consideration.

Acer GD235HZbid Widescreen 23.6″ 3D LCD Display

The Acer GD235HZbid is one of the better 3D displays available for both LED and LCD monitors. While it’s not cheap (just over $300) it’s reasonably priced in the realm of 3D monitors with “120 hertz refresh rates”. This coupled with a 2ms response time, dynamic contrast ratio of 80000:1, and full high definition 1920 x 1080 resolution gives this monitor an incredibly vivid and detailed picture.

Overall: The Acer GD235HZbid doesn’t come with the NVIDIA 3D Vision kit so you’ll have to purchase something like that separately but in using the GD235HZbid in both 2D and 3D modes we couldn’t find anything wrong with the picture. In fact, we liked the 2D mode so much it’s tempting not to purchase it just for that.

Samsung P2770FH 27-Inch Full HD LCD Monitor – 1ms response time

The P2770FH is sleek, thin, and has everything you’re looking for in a gaming monitor. Specifications include 1920 x 1080 resolution, 170°(H) / 160°(V) viewing angle, 0.283mm pixel pitch, 16.7 Million display colors, 300 cd/m2 brightness, DC 70,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 1ms response time, DVI-I, HDMI, and a 3 year parts and labor warranty.

Overall: Overall we feel that this is one of the better 27 inch LCD monitors that you’ll come across. In the past we might have suggested the Viewsonic VX2739WM; however, as that model has been discontinued and they are similar in specifications go with the P2270FH.

Hanns G HZ281HPB 28-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor – Cheap Large Monitor

If you’re looking for a cheap large monitor, then check out the Hanns G HZ281HPB 28 inch LCD computer monitor which has come down in price considerably from a few months ago and has gaming grade specifications. These include a 3ms response time, 1920 x 1200 full high definition resolution, dynamic contrast ratio of 15000:1, Active Matrix, TFT LCD panel, 400 cd/m2 brightness, 170°(H) / 160°(V) viewing angle, 0.309mm pixel pitch, built-inspeakers, tilt stand adjustment, VESA Wall Mounting Compatible, and a full 3 year parts and labor warranty.

What one owner had to say:

“This is a beautiful screen. Firstly, it is large, very large. It provides the user with a very large desktop surface in which to work. The colors are vibrant, the blacks are very black, and the whites, in particular, are very white. Some earlier-generation monitors tended to have a cream-colored off-white rather than a true white, not this monitor. The whites are snowy-white and brilliant. This monitor is particularly nice for those of us who enjoy digital photography, as it beautifully displays digital photographs with true colors and superb and subtle contrast.”

    BENQ XL2410T, Asus VG236HE and LG W2363D-PF
Why dont you talk about these??They are very good for gaming

    • admin says:

David – Thanks for your interest in our site. Those are some very good monitors and I’ll consider adding at least the first you mentioned in our list. It’s simply not possible to talk about every monitor available so we try to stick with those that add the best value and are most popular among gamers in any month. Also, I believe the LG W2363D-PF is no longer readily available.

I currently have a 23″/ 50,000:1/ 2ms response/ 1080p LG that i bought a couple years ago. Im looking to upgrade and I was wondering what the best monitor on the market is right now? (price not an issue)

Jeff I like the new Viewsonic VX2453MH-LED. It’s around $190 has a 2ms response time and is fantastic. I own the 27 inch version of this model the VX2753MH-LED which actually has a 1ms response time.
