Best LED/LCD Monitors for Gaming 2012 – 2013

This post will review the top LED monitors in 2011 built specifically with gaming or entertainment use in mind. If you’re looking for a LED monitor for standard home or office use, then be sure to check out this article on the bestselling LED monitors of 2013.

LED vs. LCD

If you work long hours on the computer each day at work (like we do) and then like to game at night, then you’ve most likely experienced the eye strain associated with excessive computer use. The fluorescent backlighting that’s used in standard LCD monitors is much harder on your eyes than what you’ll get with an LED backlit LCD monitor. Choosing an LED monitor will allow you to work longer and avoid all that excess eye strain. LED monitors are also eco-friendly as they don’t use mercury and use up to 60% less power than LCD monitors. Cosmetically LED monitors, in general, can also be made thinner than LCD monitors.

Best LED Gaming Monitors 2011

Samsung PX2370 23 Inch LED Computer Monitor

One of the best LED monitors available for gaming is the Samsung PX2370. The PX2370 has a bunch of really cool features built-in including MagicLux, which automatically adjusts the brightness of your screen based on the ambient light in your room, and MagicEco which easily allows you to save additional power by giving you the option to work at 100 %, 75 % or 50 % brightness.

Design

Although it’s certainly not a requirement for gaming it helps that the PX2370 has a nice look to it. The charcoal finish and ultra-thin design (just 16.5mm) help to make everything that comes on your screen look nicer.

Technical Details and Picture

The LED-backlight helps to give this screen an amazing detail with its “mega” dynamic contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1 (1,000:1 standard). A 2ms response time gives it virtually blur-free motion and with 1,920 x 1,080 full HD resolution it yields some of the sharpest images available. Despite not being an IPS panel monitor the Samsung PX2370 has 100 % sRGB color standard reproduction. Additional specifications include DVI and HDMI connectors, tilt adjustment, and a 3 year parts and labor warranty from Samsung.

Overall: Although it’s still not ideal for photo editing, the picture is exactly what you’d want for gaming. If you can find it on sale (under $250), then it’s also very reasonably priced when compared to other similar size/spec LED monitors.

Not Big Enough?

If you like the look of the PX2370 and want to go bigger, then we suggest you go with the Samsung S27A350H 27-Inch Class LED Monitor which has similar specifications.

Viewsonic VX2753MH-LED 27-Inch LED Monitor

Viewsonic is known for bringing affordable innovation to consumers. We were impressed when they released the ViewSonic VX2739WM which was the world’s first 27 inch LCD monitor with a 1ms response time. This year we get the Viewsonic VX2753MH-LED which still has the 1ms response time with an even more rich and detailed picture bolstered by a 30,000,000:1 mega contrast ratio (1,200:1 standard) and full 1080p high definition. We also like that the VX2739WM comes with a DVI and 2 HDMI connectors which adds a little flexibility to your setup. We also really like how light weight this monitor is and with the bookstand option (remove base and use the stand in the back to lean it) it makes this monitor portable enough to carry to your LAN party.

Additional Details

Technical details for the VX2753MH-LED include glossy screen with anti-glare, 170°(H) / 160°(V) viewing angle, 300 cd/m2 brightness, tilt adjustable Down -5°, Up 20°, built-in 2W x 2 speakers, and a 3 year warranty with Viewsonic’s industry leading pixel performance guarantee.

Too Big?

If the Viewsonic VX2753MH-LED is a little out of your price range or too big for your tastes, then go with Viewsonic’s 24 inch version of this monitor, the Viewsonic VX2453MH-LED.
